Abraham
Abraham is a key figure to both Jews and Christians
• Abraham is mentioned 74 times in the New Testament
• Venerated by all 3 monotheistic religions
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
• Distinctive Titles
•“Father of the Faithful” Hebrews 11:8
There is a sense, that anyone who is faithful to God is a son of Abraham.
• “Friend of God” James 2:23
Abraham (Highlights)
• Everlasting Covenant
• A struggle between the flesh and Spirit
– Abraham’s personal life;
– Ishmael vs Isaac;
– Sarah vs Hagar (Galatians 4:21-31).
• Melchizedek
– King and Priest of the Most High, Judah is the Royal line and Levi is the Priestly line and they are separate.
There are only three people with the title of both King and Priest
• Melchizedek
• Jesus King and Priest of the Most High
• And the Body of Christ in Revelation
• Akedah: where Abraham offered his son, Isaac (Genesis 22).
Terah’s Family @6:00
Abram, Nahor, Haran father of Lot, and Terah had Sarai through another wife was Abram’s half sister
• Terah was an idolater (Joshua 24:2).
• Terah’s youngest son Haran was born and died in Ur (Genesis 11:28),
• Capital of Sumer
Genesis 20:12:
And yet indeed she [Sarai] is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. Now the LORD had said unto Abram,
Genesis 12:1-3
Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
• We suspect that God hasn’t judged America, is because of our support of Israel.
• We help to provide for their protection, and that is God honoring
• “...had said”… Abram didn’t leave “his kindred” and “his father’s house”;
• he simply moved up river…
• “Terah” means “delay”;
• “Haran” means “parched.”
Abram’s failure
seems “hidden” (Cf. Heb 11:8). Heb 8:12; 10:17: “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.” Psalm 103:12: “As far as the east is from the west,
so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”
Seven “I Wills” (Genesis 12:2-3)
• And I will make of thee a great nation,
• and I will bless thee,
• and make thy name great;
• and thou shalt be a blessing:
• And I will bless them that bless thee,
• and curse him that curseth thee:
• and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Three Major Promises
• God’s Covenant with Abraham
– In his seed all nations shall be blessed.
• God’s Covenant with the Nation Israel
– If they faithfully served Him they’d prosper.
– If they forsook Him they would be destroyed.
Third Covenant
• God’s Covenant with David
– His family would produce the Messiah who would reign over
God’s people forever .
The Battle of 9 Kings: Genesis 14
Shemites
Amraphel, king of Shinar
Arioch, king of Ellasar
Chedorlaomer, king of Elam
Tidal, king of nations;
Hamites defeated by the Shemites
Bera, king of Sodom
Birsha, king of Gomorrah
Shinab, king of Admah
Shemeber, king of Zeboiim
King of Bela (Zoar)
• Hamites served Chedorlaomer 12 years; the13th year they rebelled.
• Chedorlaomer defeated and spoiled the rebels.
• Took Lot, Abram’s nephew, captive from Sodom.
The Slaughter of the Kings
• Abram’s army (318 trained servants) rescues Lot and the people of Sodom.
• He then comes back to Salem, later to be called Jerusalem.
• Melchizedek: King & Priest of Salem;
• Receives Abram’s tithes (Heb 6:20).
• Allusions (Psalm 110; Hebrews 5, 6, 7).
• Administers Bread and Wine to Abram.
• @14:22 Some people try to make Melchizedek an Old Testament appearance to Jesus Christ, I don’t think so. We know that he was a man, and many of these theories are on frail ground.
• But he is used as an example to a lot of points later on in the scriptures.
Unconditional Covenant: Genesis 15
A divinely ordered ritual:
• barath, “To cut a covenant.”
(Participants would divide a sacrifice, and together, the two partners would walk together in a figure “8,” and would repeat the terms of the agreement (covenant).
• Adam is in a “deep sleep.”
• Abraham is in a “deep sleep.”
• Abraham is not a participant, but a beneficiary of the promises
Here God does it alone, He make the promises and He will bring it to pass
Abrahamic Covenant
• Commitment of the Land to his descendants “from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates”
• West Bank?” Which river?!
• There are “Four Angels” bound to the River Euphrates and will be released in the book of Revelation
• Afflicted in Egypt: 400 years (Acts 7:6);
• But was in Egypt 430 years (Exodus 12:40)
• But will return with great possession.
• Satan then has four centuries to lay down a “mine field:”
• The Nephilim (Rephaim) in the land!
• When Moses sent the twelve spies, ten came back and said, there are Nephilim in the land. Numbers 13:33
• Return in the fourth generation (Ex 6:16-26).
• Basic Paradigm (Romans 8:30): Predestined. Called. Justified. Glorified
The Terms of the Covenant
• Declared eternal and unconditional
• Re-confirmed by an oath:
• Confirmed to Isaac and Jacob:
• Despite their acts of disobedience
• New Testament declares it as immutable Hebrews 6:13-18;
Abram to Abraham: Genesis 17
• Changed his Name to Abraham.
• Confirmed His Covenant: “Father of Many Nations.”
• Instituted Circumcision as a sign.
• Also changed Sarai to Sarah.
• Promised him a son.
The way you see Hebrew written today, is written the way it was, after the Babylonian Captivity, the way you see it written today is a little different.
• The “aleph” Originally was written to represent a long horned “Oxen Head”.
Aleph a = “First”; “Strength” like an “Ox”; or “Leader.”
Bet b = “House”; “Family” (Beth Lehem; Beth-El; etc.) Bethlehem “House of Bread”, Bethel “House of God”
• Bet Originally, looked like a “Tee-Pee”
• If you take an
Aleph-Beth; Ab = “Leader of the House” = “Father”
Heh H (Hands lifted up; open window) = “Behold”; “Revealed”
• Also, “Breeze”; “wind;” “Spirit.”
Ahab the Revealing the heart or essence of the Father… “Love”
Names Changed: Genesis 17
• Abram ~ heh = Abraham (Abram is loved)
• Sarai ~ heh = Sarah (Sarai is loved)
Circumcision
Medically;
• Vitamin K, a clotting element, is not formed until the 5th to the 7th day.
• Prothrombin is also necessary for blood clotting
• 3rd day: 30% of normal;
• 8th day: peaks at 110%, then levels off at 100% of normal).
• The optimum time to circumcise a child is on the 8th day
• How did Moses know to circumcise on the 8th day? (Genesis 17:1).
Moses was schooled in all of “The Wisdom of the Egyptians”…
The Papyrus Ebers, 1332 B.C., states the following remedies:
• Embedded splinter? Apply worm’s blood & ass’s dung.
Losing Hair? Apply six fats (horse, hippopotamus, crocodile, cat, snake, ibex).
• Turning Gray? Anoint with blood of black calf which has been boiled in oil or fat of rattlesnake.
• The well-stocked medicine cabinet included: lizard’s blood, swine’s teeth, putrid meat, moisture from pig’s ears, milk goose grease, asses’ hooves, animal fats, excreta from animals (human, donkeys, antelopes, dogs, cats, and flies).
• These beliefs a.k.a., superstitions never finds its way into the writings of Moses
• It’s not just what is in the Bible, but, what is NOT!!! in the Bible.
Abraham’s Three Visitors
• Abraham hurried to them v.2
– He hurried back to the tent v.6
– He ran to the herd v.7
– his servant hurried v.7
• Abraham realized who these three people are, God and two angels posing as men
Abraham serves a non- kosher meal
• Abraham bowed low before them v.2
• He got water to wash their feet v.4
• He served them
– freshly baked bread v.6
– a choice calf v.7
– curds and milk v.8
• He stood while they were eating v.8; cf. vv.1-2
All this suggests that he perceived who his visitors were.
Oaks of Mamre: Genesis 18
• Three “men” visit: the Lord and 2 angels.
• Three measures of meal …Matthew 18
• A son from Sarah confirmed, she will be 100 years old
• God says, “should I not tell my friend Abraham what I’m about to do?”
• Abraham “negotiates”...
50?
45?
40?
30?
20?
10?
• The angels tell Lot, that they can’t do their job until Lot is out of there.
• What this implies is that if Abraham had said, “what if there was one righteous?” God would have spared them even if it was one righteous.
• Partial Rapture can’t stand under this, ...Remember Nineveh?
Sodom & Gomorrah: Genesis 19
• Two angels visit Lot.
• The homosexuals seek the visitors.
– Lot offers his virgin daughters instead.
– The angels blind the attackers.
• Lot’s family evacuated .
– As a prerequisite condition to judgment.
• Jesus likened His return to these days! (Luke 17:29).
Flesh vs. Spirit
• Abraham lived 430 years before the Law:
• Promises preceded the Law
• Law: cannot be disannulled (Galatians 3:17).
• Ishmael vs Isaac
– Two sons of two principles: Flesh; Spirit.
– Ishmael: of the flesh, in unbelief.
• “The son of the bondwoman will not be heir…”
– Isaac: of promise, in response to faith.
• The Ultimate Triumph of Faith: the offering of Isaac (Gal 4:22-31)
The Offering of Isaac: Genesis 22 “The Akedah”
I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used
similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
Hosea 12:10
Figures of Speech
• Simile: Resemblance (Genesis 25:25; Matthew 7:24-27);
• Allegory: Comparison by representation (Gen 49:9; Gal 4:22, 24);
• Metaphor: Representation (Matthew 26:26);
• Hypocatastasis: an implied resemblance or representation (Matthew 7:3-
5; Matthew 15:13);
• Type: A figure or example of something future (Romans 5:14; Genesis 22, 24);
• Analogy: resemblance in some particulars between things otherwise
unlike.
• There are over 200 different kinds of figures of speech in the Bible
• They are cataloged in Chuck’s Book “Cosmic Codes, Appendix A”
Types:
Genesis 22:1,2
And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said
unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. 2] And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
“Only” son? “Love”: Isaac
• 1st Mention. The Law of First Mention
• “Love” is first mentioned here, the love of a father to his son Cf. John 3:16.
• Abraham has really learned his lesson by the time you get to Genesis 22, he’s had a lot of fall backs, lapses, etc.
Genesis 22:3
And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
• He just took off, no messing around, no praying, he just obeyed.
• No test could have been more severe than the one God now imposed.
And no obedience could have been more perfect than Abraham’s.
• They took a three day journey to “Beersheba” south of Jerusalem
Genesis 22:4
Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
• In the New Testament we will learn that Isaac was dead a soon as the commandment came,
• On the third day after the trip, Isaac will be returned to Abraham
• Why a three-day journey? Prophetic of Jesus being 3 days in the tomb.
• ~50 miles, Why there?
Genesis 22:5,6
And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and
the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you. 6] And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
• Isaac was not a child: possibly 30 years of age!... you will see why shortly.
• “Both of them together” = both in agreement.
• An image of the Son who said “Father … not my will, but yours be done” (Lk 22:42).
Genesis 22:7,8
7] And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here
am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? 8] And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
• Abraham would offer Isaac on Mount Moriah
• And he believed that Isaac would be resurrected, because God promised that Isaac would have children
• This was not blind faith, but a belief that God keeps His promises
• God finds a different way everyday to ask us, “Do you trust me”?
• “Both of them together” = both in agreement.
Isaac asks, “Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
8] And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
• Who?!! Would provide the Offering? God, ...Himself (cf. v.14).
Genesis 22:9-10
9] And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an
altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on
the altar upon the wood. 10] And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
• A true worshiper of God holds nothing back from God but obediently gives Him what He asks, trusting that He will provide.
Topology of Mount Moriah
1
• Salem (Ophel) is the City of David, it was a town back then because Melchizedek was a King and Priest there.
• Threshing floor of Arunah, that David will but to
@40:29
Genesis 22:11,12
11] And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham,
Abraham: and he said, Here am I. 12] And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
“Young lads”: Armed soldiers; Isaac 32 years old?
• Abraham did not withhold his son.
• A form of the same Greek word is used of Abraham in the Septuagint: Gen 22:12
• “Thou hast not spared (epheiso) thy beloved son”.
• A name only relevant in a prophetic perspective!
• Abraham knew he was acting out a prophetic ritual.
Similarly Paul wrote that God “did not spare (epheisato) His own Son, but gave [delivered] Him up for us all” (Rom 8:32).
Romans 8:32
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Leviticus 1:11 And he shall kill it on the side of the altar northward before the Lord: and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall sprinkle his blood round about upon the altar.
• North of the Camp, north of the city that this takes place and ultimately where Golgotha would be located.
Genesis 22: 13,14
13] And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught
in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him
up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
14] And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day,
In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
• “In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen” this is prophetic, Abraham some how knew!
Hebrews 11:17-19
By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had
received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said,
That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise
him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
• It was Abraham’s belief in the resurrection of Isaac that caused him to be saved.
• It’s our belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ that caused us to be saved
• God again confirmed His covenant with Abraham (cf. 15:5, 18-21; 17:3- 8).
• His descendants would be numerous like the stars (cf. 15:5; 26:4),
• like the sand on the seashore (cf. 32:12), and
• “like the dust of the earth” (cf.13:16; 28:14)..
1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Revelation 5:1-7
And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the
Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood the Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
Jesus Christ takes possession of that which He purchased by His Blood
Genesis 22:15, 17
15] And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
16] And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done
this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:17] That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
Genesis 22:18, 19
18] And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
19] So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
• God then added another element:
Abraham’s descendants would be victorious over the cities of their Canaanite enemies.
• This was done by Joshua in the Conquest.
A Bride for Isaac: Genesis 24
• Abraham commissions Eleazer to gather a bride for Isaac.
• Eleazer was a servant, but also, a business partner, who was qualified to inherit his estate
• Eleazar qualifies her by a well;
• She agrees to marry the bridegroom;
• He gives her gifts…
• She joins her bridegroom at the well of Lahai-Roi.
Typology
• Abraham = The Father
• Isaac = The Son
• Eleazar = The Holy Spirit… sent to gather the Bride for the Son
Eleazer in Hebrew means, “the comforter”
Genesis 22:19
So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
They are up on the hill, Abraham comes down the hill to these two young men.
Who’s going home according to this verse
• Abraham
• Two young men
• A donkey
Where’s Isaac?
• Isaac is personally “edited out of the record”
• Until he is united with his bride by the well of LaHai Roi…two chapters later.
• The well of LaHai Roi: “the well of Living One [who] sees me.”

Esau and Jacob
Jacob the son of the spirit
Esau the son of the flesh
Marriage Model:
• Gentile Brides (Eve, Rebekah, Asenath, Rahab, and
Ruth—all have no death recorded...
Isaac Marries Rebekah they have Two Sons
Jacob
• ya‘aqob “may He [God] protect”
• ‘aqeb “heel”
• ’aqob “deceitful, sly, insidious”
• Thus, “one who grabs the heel” or “one who trips up.”
• The second twin was born grasping Esau’s heel.
In view of the oracle the parents had received (v. 23) it seemed appropriate to give this child a name that would preserve the memory of this event.
But as with Esau, so Jacob’s name would take on a different sense later in life as his deceptive nature became evident.
So the twins’ births had great significance for later events in their lives.
Romans 9:11-13
For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
• Esau, will have disdain for his birthright,
• Jacob will covet it.
Esau will marry the Ishmaelites,
• The descendants of Ishmael, Esau, and Keturah will co-mingle Arabs today
“Arabs”
There is no Arab today that can trace his lineage back to Ishmael
• Because none of these tribes maintained distinctiveness, they cross bred and intermarried
Esau and Jacob
Genesis 25:23
And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two
manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one
people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall
serve the younger.
• Esau: the firstborn.
• Jacob: purchases the birthright from Esau and obtains Jacob’s blessing thru deceit.
• Jacob received a blessing from his father by hiding behind the name and wearing the garments of his beloved firstborn son.
So do we!
Ways to Study
• Archaeological (Historical)
• Theological (Doctrinal)
• Comparative (Integral with NT, etc)
• Devotional (Personal)
– Observation Who, What, Where, When
– Interpretation Why, Primary implications
– Application So what: How does this effect me?
Summary
• All participants were at fault: Isaac attempted to thwart God’s plan by blessing Esau!
• Esau broke the oath he had made with Jacob.
• Rebekah and Jacob tried to achieve God’s blessing by deception.
• Their victory would reap hatred and separation.
• Rebekah never saw Jacob again.
• Jacob alone did not destroy the family;
• Parental preference did.
Many Lessons
• Parental favoritism, which tore their family apart
• Spiritual insensitivity: Reliance on senses vs. spiritual discernment
• Deception:
Jacob’s only hesitancy was his fear that he would be cursed instead of blessed (27:12).
• Jacob later would learn that blessings are given by God, not gained by deceit.
So in a sense Rebekah and Jacob won, though they gained nothing that God would not have given them anyway; and they lost much.
• Their family life was destroyed, and each had to bear lonely hours of separation,
disillusionment, and regret.
• Rebekah would never see her favorite son again, and Jacob would have to face life without father, mother, or brother.
• Yet God would work through their conniving.
• Their activities only succeeded in doing what God’s oracle had predicted.
• God’s program will triumph, often in spite of human activities.
• Natural senses play a conspicuous part—especially the sense of taste in which Isaac
prided himself, but which gave him the wrong answer.
Wrestling to the End of Self
Gen 29: Jacob cheated by Laban.
Gen 30: 12 Tribes born.
Gen 31: Jacob returns to the Land.
Gen 32: Jacob wrestles; renamed Israel.
Gen 33: Jacob reconciled to Esau.
Gen 34: Sin the family; Dinah revenged.
Gen 35: Jacob returns to Bethel; Benjamin born; Rachel dies.

Pharez is in the Royal Line of Jesus Christ,
Levirate Marriage
• Levirate Marriage (from Latin levir, “husband’s brother”) was
• Codified in the Torah (Deut 25:5-10) by Moses for the sake of preserving the name of the deceased. It involves
• The role of the Goel, the Kinsman-Redeemer (Ruth 1-4).
• It is imperative to understand the Goel as it relates to the Ultimate Redemption (Rev 5).

Genesis 49:10
The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
• Scepter
• The term “scepter” refers to their tribal identity and the right to apply and enforce Mosaic Laws and adjudicate capital offenses: jus gladii. It is significant that even during their 70-year Babylonian captivity (606-537 b.c.) the tribes retained their tribal identity.
• [Josh MacDowell, Evidence that Demands a Verdict, pp. 108-168.]
• They retained their own logistics, judges, etc. (Ezekiel 1:5,8)
• “Shiloh” means that it belongs to the Messiah
• The term “Shiloh” was understood by the early rabbis and Talmudic authorities as referring to the Messiah. [Targum Onkelos, Targum Pseudo-Jonathan, and Targum Yerusahlmi, The Messiah: An Aramaic Interpretation; The Messianic Exegesis of the Targum, Samson H. Levy, Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion, Cincinnati, 1974.] The Hebrew word shiloh should be rendered
• “whose it is,” that is, the scepter will not depart from Judah until He comes to whom it belongs.
Sceptre Departs
In A.D. 6-7 A.D., King Herod’s son and successor,
• Herod the Great died (4 B.C.?)
• Herod Antipater, had been murdered by Herod the Great, along with other family members.
• Herod Archelaus, was dethroned and banished to Vienna, a city in Gaul.
Archelaus was the second son of Herod the Great. The older son,
• (It was quipped at the time that it was safer to be a dog in that household than a member of the family!)
Archelaus had been placed over Judea

• Broadly rejected, he was removed in A.D. 6-7.
• He was replaced by
• Caponius a Roman Procurator 6-7 A.D. Transfer of power Josephus Antiquities 20:9
• The legal power of the Sanhedrin was immediately restricted and the adjudication
of capital cases was lost.
• Sceptre Departs
The Priests officially mourned
–“Woe unto us for the scepter has departed from Judah and the Messiah has not come!”
• Because when their power was taken away, they thought that the word of God had been broken.
Genesis 49:10
The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
• This was normal Roman policy (Josephus, Wars of the Jews, 2:8. Also, The Jerusalem Talmud, Sanhedrin, folio 24.)
The scepter had, indeed, been removed from Judah,
• but Shiloh had come.
• While the Jews wept in the streets of Jerusalem, a young son of a carpenter was growing up in Nazareth.
• He would present Himself as the Meshiach Nagid, Messiah the King, on the very day which had been predicted by the Angel Gabriel to Daniel five centuries earlier (Dan 9:24-
27).

Genesis 14
• Abraham’s army (318 trained servants) rescues Lot, and the people of Sodom
• Melchizedek
- King and Priest of Salem

- Allusions: Psalms 110; Hebrews 5, 6, 7
- A contrast to the Levitical Priesthood, etc.
- Administers Bread and Wine to Abram Joseph interprets dream of bread and wine (the King’s baker and the King’s cup bearer), Jesus and the disciples.
- The writer of Hebrews makes the point that Melchizedek had no beginning and end of days simply meaning that it was not recorded to make a rhetorical point, many people misunderstand that. We know that Melchizedek was a man. So, many of these theories are on frail ground.
- But he is used as an example for a lot of points later on in the scriptures.
Genesis 14:18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
Seven “I Wills” (Genesis 12:2-3)
• And I will make of thee a great nation,
• and I will bless thee,
• and make thy name great;
• and thou shalt be a blessing:
• And I will bless them that bless thee,
• and curse him that curseth thee:
• and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Three Major Promises
• God’s Covenant with Abraham
– In his seed all nations shall be blessed.
• God’s Covenant with the Nation Israel
– If they faithfully served Him they’d prosper.
– If they forsook Him they would be destroyed.
• God’s Covenant with David
– His family would produce the Messiah who would reign over
God’s people forever .
Unconditional Covenant: Genesis 15
A divinely ordered ritual: barath, “To cut a covenant.” (Participants would divide a sacrifice, and together, in a figure “8,” would repeat the terms of the covenant. Adam is in a “deep sleep.” Not a participant. Here God does it alone.) It is a sacred covenant that God does alone, Abraham sets it up and God it, because it is an unconditional covenant. The land is Gods.
Genesis 2:21And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
Genesis 15:12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him. 13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; 14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance. 15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age. 16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
Here God does it alone without the participation of Abraham, it is unconditional. 17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces. 18 In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
Abrahamic Covenant
• Commitment of the Land to his descendants “from the river of Egypt
to the great river, the River Euphrates”;
• Afflicted in Egypt: 400 years (Acts 7:6); in Egypt 430 years (Exodus 12:40);
• But will return with great possession.
“West Bank?” Which river?! Satan then has four centuries to lay down
a “mine field:” The Nephilim (Rephaim) in the land! In Egypt: 430 years,
afflicted 400 years. Return in the fourth generation (Exodus 6:16-26).
Basic Paradigm (Romans 8:30): Predestined. Called. Justified. Glorified.
Genesis 16: 3 And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife. 4 And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. 5 And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the Lord judge between me and thee.
Abram to Abraham: Genesis 17
• Changed his Name to Abraham.
• Confirmed His Covenant: “Father of Many Nations.”
• Instituted Circumcision as a sign.
• Also changed Sarai to Sarah.
• Promised him a son.
Aleph a = “First”; “Strength”; or “Leader.”
Bet b = “House”; “Family” (Beth Lehem; Beth-El; etc.)
Aleph-Beth ba = “Leader of the House” = “Father”
Heh h H (Hands lifted up; open window) = “Behold”; “Revealed”
Also, “Breeze”; “wind;” “Spirit.”
Ahab bha Revealing the heart or essence of the Father… “Love”
Abraham laughed Sarah laughed
Genesis17:17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? 18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!
19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
Genesis18:12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? 13 And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?
14 Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
Genesis 21:1 And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken. 2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
The Lord and two angels show up
Genesis18:1 And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; 2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,...6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.
Three measures of fine meal from that day on, in the Jewish and Arabic cultures is the fellowship offering
Matthew 13:33 The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into three measures of flour, until all of it was leavened."
Luke 13:21 "The kingdom of the heavens is like leaven, which a woman having taken, hid in three measures of flour until it was all leavened.
Abraham’s Three Visitors
• Abraham hurried to them v.2
– He hurried back to the tent v.6
– He ran to the herd v.7
– his servant hurried v.7
• Abraham bowed low before them v.2
• He got water to wash their feet v.4
• He served them
– freshly baked bread v.6
– a choice calf v.7
– curds and milk v.8
• He stood while they were eating v.8; cf. vv.1-2
All this suggests that he perceived who his visitors were.
Sodom & Gomorrah I will not destroy for ten sake
Genesis18:26 And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.
27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:
28 Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
29 And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.
30 And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.
31 And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake.
32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.
The angels can’t do their job until Lot is ushered out of there
Genesis19:20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live. 21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken. 22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. 23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. 24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;
Burnt offering
Genesis 22:1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son...18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
Flesh vs. Spirit
• Abraham lived 430 years before the Law: Promises preceded the
Law: cannot be disannulled (Galatians 3:17).
• Ishmael vs Isaac
– Two sons of two principles: Flesh; Spirit.
– Ishmael: of the flesh, in unbelief.
• “The son of the bondwoman will not be heir…”
– Isaac: of promise, in response to faith. Isaac was probably 30-33 years old
• The Ultimate Triumph of Faith: the offering of Isaac (Gal 4:22-31)
Isaac was not a child: possibly 30 years of age!... you will see why shortly.
“Both of them together” = both in agreement. An image of the Son who
said “Father … not my will, but yours be done” (Lk 22:42).
The Offering of Isaac: Genesis 22 “The Akedah”
I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets. Hosea 12:10
Figures of Speech
• Simile: Resemblance (Gen 25:25; Mt 7:24-27);
• Allegory: Comparison by representation (Gen 49:9; Gal 4:22, 24);
• Metaphor: Representation (Mt 26:26);
• Hypocatastasis: an implied resemblance or representation (Mt 7:3-
5; Mt 15:13);
• Type: A figure or example of something future (Rom 5:14; Gen 22, 24);
• Analogy: resemblance in some particulars between things otherwise
unlike.

Topography of Mount Moriah
Threshing Floor of Arunah (future Temple Mount)
The Peak: Akedah (future Golgatha) 2,000 later on this very spot, another Father will offer His son Jesus for the world. Romans 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. 14] And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen. A name only relevant in a prophetic perspective! Abraham knew he was
acting out a prophetic ritual.
Hebrews 11:17-19 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
Revelation 5:1-7 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood the
Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
Genesis 22:19 So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
Abraham comes down from the hill where he offered the ram instead of Isaac, Abraham returned unto his young men to go home. Where is Isaac?
Typology
Abraham = The Father Isaac = The Son Eleazar = The Holy Spirit… sent to gather the Bride for the Son
So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
Where’s Isaac? Isaac is personally “edited out of the record” until he
is united with his bride by the well of Lahai-Roi…two chapters later. (The well of LaHai Roi: “the well of Living One [who] sees me.”)
One Integrated Design: The New Testament is in the Old Testament
concealed; The Old Testament is in the New Testament revealed.
Marriage Model:
Gentile Brides (Eve, Rebekah, Asenath, Rahab, and
Ruth—all have no death recorded...
A Bride for Isaac: Genesis 24
Abraham commissions Eleazer to gather a bride for Isaac. Eleazar qualifies her by a well; she agrees to marry the bridegroom; he gives her gifts…she joins her bridegroom at the well of Lahai-Roi.
The Well of Lahai-Roi: “the well of Living One [who] sees me.”
Isaac and Rebekah
Genesis 24:37 And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:
38 But thou shalt go unto my father's house, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son.
Genesis 25:1 Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. 5 And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac. 6 But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.
Genesis 27:46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?
Jacob
bqo[]y: ya‘aqob “may He [God] protect”
bqe[ ‘aqeb “heel”
bqo[‘ ’aqob “deceitful, sly, insidious”
Thus, “one who grabs the heel” or “one who trips up.”
Sell me this day thy birthright
Genesis 25:27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.... 31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. 32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? 33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.
Romans 9:11-13 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil,
that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
Esau and Jacob
And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two
manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one
people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall
serve the younger.
Genesis 25:23
• Esau: the firstborn.
• Jacob: purchases the birthright from Esau and obtains Jacob’s
blessing thru deceit.
Jacob received a blessing from his father by hiding behind the name and
wearing the garments of his beloved firstborn son. So do we!
Genesis 27:32 And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau. 33 And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed. 34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father. 35 And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing. 36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me? 37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?
Laban deceives Jacob
Genesis 29:21 And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her. 22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast. 23 And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her. 24 And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid. 25 And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me? 26 And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. 27 Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years. 28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.
Genesis 31:7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me...14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house? 15 Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money. 16 For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children's: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do. 17 Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;
Joseph Sold
Joseph’s brothers sold him rather than kill him at Judah’s suggestion
Genesis 37:28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.
Joseph’s brothers told their father Jacob that they found this coat but they did not know whether it was Joseph’s coat or not.
Genesis 37:31 And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood; 32 And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son's coat or no.
34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.
In what several ways did Jacob defraud his brother Esau?
• Jacob: purchases the birthright from Esau and obtains Jacob’s blessing thru deceit in Genesis 25 and 27. Jacob took advantage of Esau’s hunger to get his birthright
• Genesis 25:27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents....
Jacob received a blessing from his father by hiding behind the name and
wearing the garments of his beloved firstborn son. So do we!
• Genesis 27:32 And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau. 33 And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.
In what ways did Isaac deceive Jacob?
God told Isaac, that the elder Esau would serve the younger Jacob
Genesis 25:23 And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.
Genesis 27:4 And make me savory meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.
In what ways was Jacob deceived regarding Joseph?
Joseph’s brothers told their father Jacob that they found this coat but they did not know whether it was Joseph’s coat or not.
Genesis 37:31 And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood; 32 And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son's coat or no.
34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.
They knew that the coat belonged to Joseph because they sold him to the Midianites.
Genesis 37:28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.
Genesis 38
Boaz, Ruth, Obed, Yishay (Jesse) and David
Levirate Marriage
• (from Latin levir, “husband’s brother”)
• Codified in the Torah Deuteronomy 25:5-10
• The role of the Goel
- The Kinsman Redeemer Ruth 1-4
At 49 letter interval’s you have the name Boaz.. At another 49 letter interval you have the name Ruth. At another 49 letter interval you have the name Obed. At another 49 letter interval you have the name Yishay (Jesse) and At another 49 letter interval you have the name David.
This is the family tree of David at 49 letter interval’s, in chronological order. They are spoken of centuries before the book of Samuel and the whole monarchy altogether. This is in the Torah (the 5 books of Moses) that will be written of them, that follow the book of Genesis. This is anticipated in the very structure of Genesis 38. The truth is in the details, God’s finger prints are all over this thing. There is no way that Moses could know in advance the genealogy of David. The prophet Samuel didn’t know about it until the time came.
The Career of Joseph: Genesis 37-50
• Joseph, favored: firstborn of Rachel.
– Coat “of many colors.”
– Dreams of ascendancy.
• Sheaves.
• Sun, Moon, Stars.
• Sold into slavery by his brothers.
• Imprisoned by Potiphar.
• Interprets dreams (Butler and Baker) and is forgotten...
The Ascendancy of Joseph
• Pharaoh’s Dreams.
– 7 Fat Cows, 7 Lean Cows.
– 7 Plump Heads of Grain, 7 Thin Heads.
• Joseph called to interpret.
• Joseph appointed Prime Minister of Egypt.
• Famine brings his brothers to beg for food.
– Keeps Simeon as a hostage for Benjamin.
– 2nd Visit: Benjamin with them.
• Jacob and the family migrate to Egypt.
The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his
feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
Genesis 49:10
The term “scepter” refers to their tribal identity and the right to apply and
enforce Mosaic Laws and adjudicate capital offenses: jus gladii. It is
significant that even during their 70-year Babylonian captivity (606-537
b.c.) the tribes retained their tribal identity. [Josh MacDowell, Evidence
that Demands a Verdict, pp. 108-168.] They retained their own logistics,
judges, etc. (Ezekiel 1:5,8) The term “Shiloh” was understood by the
early rabbis and Talmudic authorities as referring to the Messiah.
[Targum Onkelos, Targum Pseudo-Jonathan, and Targum Yerusahlmi,
The Messiah: An Aramaic Interpretation; The Messianic Exegesis of
the Targum, Samson H. Levy, Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of
Religion, Cincinnati, 1974.] The Hebrew word shiloh should be rendered
“whose it is,” that is, the scepter will not depart from Judah until He
comes to whom it belongs.
Sceptre Departs
In A.D. 6-7 A.D., King Herod’s son and successor, Herod Archelaus, was
dethroned and banished to Vienna, a city in Gaul. Archelaus was the
second son of Herod the Great. The older son, Herod Antipater, had been
murdered by Herod the Great, along with other family members. (It was
quipped at the time that it was safer to be a dog in that household than
a member of the family!)

Matthew 3:17 :And lo a voice from heaven, saying,
This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
• Jesus was rejected by his brothers and nation
Mark 6:1-4

King’s and Priests only three designated
• Melchizedek
• Jesus King and Priest of the Most High
• And the Body of Christ in Revelation
Genesis 14
• Abraham’s army (318 trained servants) rescues Lot, and the people of Sodom
• Melchizedek
- King and Priest of Salem
- Receive’s Abram’s tithes Hebrews 6:20
• And I will make of thee a great nation,
• and I will bless thee,
• and make thy name great;
• and thou shalt be a blessing:
Genesis 2:21And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
• Commitment of the Land to his descendants “from the river of Egypt
to the great river, the River Euphrates”;
• Afflicted in Egypt: 400 years (Acts 7:6); in Egypt 430 years (Exodus 12:40);
The angels can’t do their job until Lot is ushered out of there
Genesis19:20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live. 21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken. 22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. 23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. 24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;
• Simile: Resemblance (Gen 25:25; Mt 7:24-27);
• Allegory: Comparison by representation (Gen 49:9; Gal 4:22, 24);
• Metaphor: Representation (Mt 26:26);
• Hypocatastasis: an implied resemblance or representation (Mt 7:3-
5; Mt 15:13);
• Type: A figure or example of something future (Rom 5:14; Gen 22, 24);
• Analogy: resemblance in some particulars between things otherwise
unlike.
Cosmic Codes, Appendix A
1] And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said
unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
2] And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and
get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon
one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
Genesis 31:7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me...14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house? 15 Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money. 16 For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children's: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do. 17 Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;
In what ways was the career of Joseph prophetic of Jesus Christ?
• Joseph was his fathers favorite
Genesis 37:3
• Joseph was rejected by his brothers
Genesis 37:4
• Joseph was cast into a pit to die, was taken (a sign of risen from the dead) and sold into slavery
