Hour 11 The Major Prophets

Hour 11 The Major Prophets
“Major” refers to the book’s size, not significance.
“Minor” prophets also include pithy treasures! Each were uniquely fitted to their tasks.
[Aren’t we also?]
The Northern Kingdom (Israel) Prophets
• Elisha
The Southern Kingdom (Judah) Prophets
• Isaiah (The Messianic Prophet).
• Jotham
• Ahaz
• Hezekiah. All the way to...
• Manasseh

• Jeremiah (The Divine Judgment Upon the Nations).
• Starts with the days of Josiah and continues right into the Babylonian Captivity.
• Josiah
• Jehoahaz
• Jehoiakim
• Jehoiakin
• Zedekiah

[• Daniel (The Times of the Gentiles—reviewed previously).]
• Transported to Babylon in the First Siege.
• Daniel writes during the Babylonian Captivity and beyond

• Ezekiel (The Coming Restoration).
• Transported to Babylon in the Second Siege

Isaiah: The Messianic Prophet
• He is quoted in the New Testament more than any other prophet.
• His literary style is loftier than Shakespeare, Milton, or Homer.
• One of the greatest discoveries of the Dead Sea Scrolls was a complete copy of the Book of Isaiah.
• ( Found in 1947 at Qumran, 7 miles S of Jericho;
• The scroll is 24 ft long; 10 x 15 inches; 200 B.C. copy.
• Virtually identical to Masoretic text,
• But 1100 years younger

The Shadow of Assyria
• For 150 years, Assyria was on the rise.
• Isaiah witnessed the deportation of the Northern Kingdom and the ruin of the entire nation, except for Jerusalem (in 701 B.C.:
• Assyrians stopped at the walls of Jerusalem by an angel of God who slaughtered 185,000 Assyrians.
• Sennacherib, King of Assyria (even 20 years later) never again came against Jerusalem

The Book of Isaiah
• Isaiah was called the year of Uzziah’s death;
• He lived during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah.
• Uzziah was a good king; enjoyed a long, successful reign.
• Jotham was also good; co-regent with Uzziah.
• Ahaz was very wicked and
• Hezekiah was a good king.
• Manasseh was very wicked;
• Tradition states that Isaiah was sawn in half by Manasseh; Hebrews 11:37?).
• Rabbinic tradition: Isaiah was the son of Amoz, brother of King Amaziah;
thus cousin to King Uzziah, and grandson to King Joash; thus, of royal blood, a man of the palace.

Overview
Principal Messages

The Doom of Babylon
• One of the key prophecies in Jeremiah has to do with the destruction of Babylon.
• Babylon fell to the Persians in 539 B.C., when Cyrus conquered Babylon, it was without
a battle and it wasn't destroyed.
• Two centuries later,  Alexander conquered the Persians, he made it his capital. When he died there. It gradually declined over the centuries
• Babylon has yet to experience this final judgment to these very specifications.
• This is what makes the rebuilding of Babylon (which had begun under Saddam Hussein of Iraq) so potentially significant from a Biblical standpoint.

"Mystery Babylon?"
There are, many scholars who believe the Babylon referred to in Revelation13 is a symbolic allusion to the Vatican. What then is the relationship between the prophecies in Jeremiah and Isaiah (which clearly depict Babylon on the Euphrates as their subject) in contrast to the more mystical allusions in the Book of Revelation? Both are also clearly at the end-time, during the "Day of the Lord."

(It is very useful to read Isaiah 13 and 14, Jeremiah 50 and 51, and Revelation 17 and 18 at one sitting to fully appreciate how closely these six chapters are related to each other.

The Null Hypothesis

The possible linkage between these two ostensibly contradictory views may be reconciled by the vision in Zechariah 5:5-11, which suggests that the power center that migrated from Babylon to Rome is destined to return to its original base to receive its final judgment. This implies that present Babylon, a relatively modest group of restored buildings by Saddam Hussein, will emerge once again as a major power center. This can only be resolved by simply watching what happens next.

The Vatican has manifested its strategy to assume the leadership of a worldwide ecumenical movement, and it is also taking an active part in the intrigues involving Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. But will it also, somewhere along the way, involve itself with the traditional site of the ancient city of Babylon? The more farfetched it seems at the moment, the more impressive it will be if it happens! Stay tuned.

• The New Covenant
• One of the most important passages in Jeremiah is God's announcement of a New Covenant:

Jeremiah 31:31-34
31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

A Plot Against the Throne
• Rezin, King of Syria, and Pekah, King of Israel, mounted an expedition to depose Ahaz and place a “Son of Tabeal” on the throne of Judah.
• This was an attempt to make a full end of the House of David but would not “come to pass” (Isaiah 7:7).

A Sign to the House of David
Isaiah 7:11-14
Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD. And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, [the] virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Some skeptics quibble about the use of Hebrew term,
• [Ha, the] Almah: which can mean young maid
• Why would that be a “sign”?
• LXX, 3rd century B.C. Greek,
• Clearly specifies parthenos, a virgin.

The Supernatural King
Isaiah 9:6, 7
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

• Child = is human.
• Son = is God.
• Wonderful
Judges 13:18 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it [is] secret (Wonderful, incomprehensible)?,
• Manoa’s visitor announcing Samson;
The Mighty God.
Note: Throne of David, as confirmed to Mary (Luke 1:32)…Forever.

Isaiah 52
13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. 14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
• “ be very high” He was lifted upon a “Cross” John 3:14
• Verse 14 The abuse was so severe that He no longer looked human
• The crucifixion was not a tragedy, it was an achievement!

Isaiah 53: 1-4
Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
• The “antithesis” “He” and “we”, He took upon Himself, what we deserved...
• Notice how often we are in antithesis, he and us.
• It clearly shows that he was in our place, Isaiah nails this with more than all of Paul’s Epistles put together.

Isaiah 53:5-8; Matthew 27: 50-61
And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall
my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
• This has not been fulfilled in its entirety until Hosea 5:15, when Israel cries out Messiah come!!!
Isaiah 53: 9-12

12 Key Points
• Comes in absolute lowliness: “a root out of a dry ground.”
• He was “Despised and rejected of men.”
• Suffered for sins, and in the place of, others: ourselves!
• God Himself caused the suffering to be vicarious.
• Absolute resignation: “He opened not his mouth.”
• Died as a felon: “from prison and judgment”s
• Cut off prematurely, “out of the land of the living.”
• Personally guiltless; “no violence nor deceit in his mouth.”
• He was to live on after his sufferings: “prolong his days.”
• YHWH’s “pleasure would prosper in his hand.”
• Mighty triumph after his suffering: “Divide spoil…”
• By all this God “would justify many.”

Isaiah 61:1,2 Jesus quoted this scripture concerning Himself Luke 4:16 - 18
Luke 4:16
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD,

Two Isaiah's?
“Isaiah I”? Chapters 1 – 39
The first 39 chapters have a certain style and from chapter 40 on, it seems to shift. So, some say that the first 39 chap. Were written by a different author.  The subject of Isaiah I is:
• Day of (YHWH) the Lord
• Judah
• Israel
• Nations
• Jerusalem
• 4 chapter Historical Addendum, Hezekiah, how they foolishly exposed all that was in his house to Babylon.
“Isaiah II”? Chapter 40 – 66
• The Suffering Servant
• The Consummation
Just as the Bible itself: 39 + 27 = 66 books. Historical addendum includes
a description (of the fall) of Babylon (100 years before its rise to power!).

Deutero-Isaiah Fallacy
• Argued from stylistic distinctives
• Refuted by style, images, vocabulary, constructions; comprehension of the overall design; LXX ascriptions:
• People who argue that there are two Isaiahs betray the fact that, they do not understand the organization of the book.
• If you comprehend the whole design, you’ll recognize that it’s a single book.
• Isaiah predicts the destruction of Babylon
• What makes that provocative is Babylon hasn’t risen up as an Empire yet! He’s writing before Babylon conquers Assyria and becomes an Empire.
•  Old Testament Pre-exile quotations
Zephaniah 2:15 This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.
Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!
Nahum 1:15 Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!
Jeremiah 31:35 Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name:
Isaiah 51:15 But I am the Lord thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared: The Lord of hosts is his name.
THE BOOK OF ISAIAH WAS WRITTEN BY ONE MAN, ISAIAH

•  The Apostle John refutes the notion of two Isaiah’s
•  New Testament quotations
John 12:38-41
That the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?  39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Isaiah said again,  40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.  41 These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
• Quote from “Isaiah 2” (53:1) and
• “Isaiah 1” (6:9,10) from that same Isaiah.
Isaiah 6:9, 10
And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. 10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

Jeremiah:
The Weeping Prophet
Prophesies before the nation goes into captivity
The prophesies are not necessarily in chronological order
• Commissioned in Chapter 1
--There were about 9 different dynasties in the Northern Kingdom
--And 1 dynasty in the Southern Kingdom (David)
• You cannot properly explain the history of any nation if you leave God out of the picture.
• Corrupt leadership inoculates the whole nation with moral poison; and inward failure issues in outward, national ruin.
“The Weeping Prophet” = The book of Lamentations, is an acrostic poetic addendum to Jeremiah’s primary book.
• One of the bravest, most tender yet most pathetic figures in history; a patriot as well as a prophet, he cared about his nation and that makes it painful.
• He ministered over 40 years (80 years after Isaiah) during the time period of 2 Kings:
• Most tragic national record ever written.
• In 40 years, he never had a grateful response from anyone, he was thrown in dungeons, prison, they felt that his writings were treasonous, and they didn’t repent.
• Is this paralleled in our own nation?
• Much of the prophesies of Isaiah and Jeremiah are not only paralleled to our own nation, but the entire world.
Jeremiah 9:1
Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!
Jesus also, wept over Jerusalem;
Matthew 23:37
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

• Daniel will rely on the literalness of this passage in his prayer in Daniel 9.
• New Covenant: This is the passage verse 31:33, that gives the New Testament its name.
• Doom of Babylon: 110 verses, longest single prophecy in the book.
• [Mystery Babylon of Revelation: symbolic or literal?]

The Blood Curse on Jeconiah
God has had it with these kings, the Northern Kingdom went from bad to worse and they are gone. But the Southern Kingdom was not much better they had a few good kings, Josiah, Hezekiah, and a few others. But after Josiah, it’s down hill in fact it gets so bad under Jeconiah, that God pronounces a blood curse on he and his decedents.
Jeremiah 22:30 Thus saith the Lord, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

Blood Curse paradox:: (will be resolved in the virgin birth!)
• Luke gives you a different genealogy than Matthew does,
• Matthew gives the legal line from Abraham down through Joseph, the legal father of Jesus Christ.
• Luke goes from Adam to Abraham, but from Abraham to David,
• Luke doesn’t go from David to Solomon, the first son of Bathsheba but to the second son of Bathsheba, a guy named Nathan (not Nathan the prophet) to Mary.

The Doom of Babylon
• Destruction of Babylon Isaiah 13, 14; Jeremiah 50, 51
– “Never to be inhabited”; “building materials never reused”; “like
Sodom and Gomorrah”
• Fall of Babylon in 539 B.C.
– Without a battle; became Alexander’s capital and atrophied over
the centuries; presently being rebuilt.

• “Mystery Babylon?” (Revelation 17-18).
The great prophecies concerning the city of Babylon in Isaiah chapters 13 and 14 and Jeremiah 50 and 51 have never been fulfilled.
• In Isaiah 13 and 14, the destruction of Babylon is predicted. In vigorous terms,
• Isaiah describes how Babylon will be destroyed and then will never again be inhabited.
• This identifies the time of the destruction as that particular period known as the “Day of The Lord” that is mentioned throughout the Scripture and is associated with the final day of God’s vengeance.
(Joel 2:10; Mal 4:5; Dan 12:1; Mt 24:21-22.)
• When God destroys Babylon, he will destroy all the evil in the world. The destruction of
• Babylon predicted by both Isaiah and Jeremiah has never been fulfilled.
Jeremiah 50:9
For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of
great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array
against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of
a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain.

Arrow” =  khayts
• literally, shot from engine of war; or shot from a bow by hand;
• LXX: boli.j (noun nominative feminine singular common):
a missile; or anything thrown, such as an arrow or javelin;
“..as of a mighty expert”: sakal
• to be prudent, be circumspect, wisely understand, prosper;
• Hiphil participle masculine singular absolute:
to have insight; to give attention to, consider, ponder, be prudent;
have comprehension;
• LLX: suneto,j, intelligent, possessing understanding.
• NAS: “Their arrows will be like an expert warrior Who does not
return empty-handed.”
• NIV: “Their arrows will be like skilled warriors who do not return
empty-handed.”
• The intelligence is in the arrow; they can’t miss. (i.e.,”smart
weapons”: missiles, bombs, etc.

Ezekiel
• A priest/prophet, like Jeremiah;
• One of 10,000 captives taken in the 2nd siege of Nebuchadnezzar,
• 11 years before the final overthrow of Jerusalem.

The Book of Ezekiel
• Present Judgments on Jerusalem (Similes and visions)
• Acts out skits
• The Future Destinies of the Nations
– Origin & Destiny of Satan Ch. 28
• Restoration of the Nation Israel
– The Valley of Dry Bones Ch. 36, 37
– Gog and Magog Ch. 38, 39
• The Millennium Ch. 40-48
• The Millennium Temple

Strange Similes
• He shuts himself up in his home.
• He binds himself.
• He is struck dumb.
• He was to lie on his right and his left sides for a total of 430 days.
• He ate bread that was prepared in an unclean manner.
• He shaved his head and beard, which was considered a shame in his particular calling.

Vision of the Throne of God: Ezekiel 1 & 10
(Cf. Isaiah 6, Revelation 4)
Ezekiel sees cherubim with four faces,
• In Isaiah chapter 6, he sees Seraphim.
• They may be the same thing, but in each case they share these same similarities of four faces.
The Lion, Ox, Man, and Eagle.

The Four Camps of Israel have these similar ensigns
Judah - The Lion
Ephraim - The Ox
Reuben - Man
Dan - The Eagle

The Four Gospels present Jesus from four vantage points
• Matthew (A Jew) - Presents Jesus as, The Lion of Judah, the Messiah of Israel
• Mark (A Gentile) - Presents Jesus as, “The Suffering Servant” for all of humanity, Jew and Gentile the symbol of the Ox, is a restless untiring beast when put to the plow (the four living creatures “they rest not day and night”, neither the the Lord Jesus rest until He had finished the work given to Him to complete.
• Luke (A Doctor) - Presents Jesus as, the “Representative of Humanity”, “The Son of Man” the number of man is the number six (Created on the sixth day), in his fallen imperfect state. Jesus is man’s intercessor because He is both God and man and took on Himself the sins of humanity, yet He is without sin.
• John (A Spirit attuned man) - Presents Jesus as, The Son of God the symbol of the Eagle, the Holy Spirit alighted upon Jesus (Holy Spirit a member of the Godhead) showing that these three are One. God the Father audibly spoke to Jesus from heaven.

Revelation 4:6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
7 And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.
8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

Isaiah 14 To the power behind the “king of Babylon”

Ezekiel 28:12, 13
To the power behind the “king of Tyre”
12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. “Ezekiel 28:17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness:
• ” God is obviously not speaking to the human king of Tyre.

Who is the Prince of the Air
13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
• There was only three beings in the Garden of God (Eden), Adam, Eve, and the serpent “nakash” the shining one.
• These precious stones are classic ways of reflecting colored light.
• They are found in the breast plate of the High Priest, we find them in he New Jerusalem.
Ezek 28:2-11
• to the “Prince of Tyre” but
Ezek 28:12-19
• to the “King of Tyre”—
• the power behind the throne: “in Eden,” “was created,” etc.
• Music was significant; he may have led worship (he’s still trying!…)
“the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created”
• His music ability is unparallel, and the speculation of some is that he led the worship heaven, until he got overly ambitious and got carried away with his own plans.

Ezekiel 28: 14-19
14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. 18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. 19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
• In Isaiah, he is taking to the king of Babylon
• Ezekiel was in Tyre, but here again, the language pierces beyond the literal king and is talking about the power that is behind him.

Isaiah 14:12-14
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
• The “5, I wills” unbridled ambition, this is why God hates pride.
• Because, it was pride in Satan that led to the beginning of sin.
• That’s why leaven is a symbol of pride, because, it corrupts by puffing up.
• Same communication style/technique as in Ezekiel 28: king of Babylon
“I will…” “in thine heart…” [Throne?] This is why God hates pride…

Isaiah 14:15-17
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; 17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

• “Hell” could mean, sheol, the abode of the spirits, it’s similar, but with a different concept.
• In the New Testament, the term would be Hades, unless He’s talking about the ultimate place which is Ghenna.
• Because, sheol and hades will ultimately be thrown into ghenna.
• “...made the world as a wilderness…”
• [Revelation 12 details his career and destiny…]

Matthew 25:41
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed,
into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels…
• Hell was created for Satan and his angels, and no one will be in hell for their sins, they will be in hell for rejecting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

The Valley of Dry Bones: Ezekiel 37
• A Vision of the Restoration of Israel (brought back to life in the flesh
• Fulfilled in the 1st half of 20th century (Israel became a nation born in a day, on May 14,1948);
• Israel will later be breathed upon with the Spirit of God
• Step 1 is in place, they are in the land! May 14, 1948
Ezekiel 36:26
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you.
Isaiah 11:11 The Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people.
• The Lord, set his hand on them to bring them back from the Babylonian Captivity, that was the first time.
• When he sets his hand the second time, that’s all she wrote.
• You and I have been watching this fulfillment in this century. When will it culminate? Only, God knows.

Why is Israel to be restored?
Ezekiel 36:22-24
Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.
The Millennial Temple: Ezekiel 40 - 48
• Description of Millennial Temple: highly detailed (not simply symbolic?);
• All nations to worship there; offerings and sacrifices resumed
• These offerings are a “Memorial”
• Open only on the Sabbath Day and New Moons.
• There is an event that occurs after the restoration and before the Millennium...

The Magog Invasion: Ezekiel 38 & 39
• The occasion in which God Himself intervenes to quell the ill-fated
invasion of Israel by Magog and its allies
Persia, Cush, Phut, Libya, Gomer, Togarmah, Meshech, Tubal
[Why all the strange names?
We make it do so: we keep changing the names of things:
Pertrograd = St. Petersburg = Leningrad = St. Petersburg again… Byzantium =
Constantinople = Istanbul; Cape Canaveral = Cape Kennedy, etc.
• The passage appears to anticipate the use of nuclear weapons.

The Magog Identity
• Hesiod, Greek Didactic Poet, 8th century B.C.
– Magogians = Scythians.
• Herodotus, “Father of History,”5th century B.C.
– Scythians (10th - 3rd century B.C.).
• Philo, Josephus, et al
.• The Great Wall of China was built to keep them out!
– The Great Wall of China: Called the “Ramparts of Gog & Magog.”
• Soviet Archaeologists’ discoveries.
• From the “Uttermost parts of the north.”

Nuclear Weapons?
• Left over weapons will provide all of the energy for the Nation of Israel 7 years.
• Professionals will be hired to clear the battlefield
–They wait for 7 months, then clear for 7 months.
–They bury the dead east of the Dead Sea (down wind)
• If a traveler finds something that the professionals missed, he doesn’t touch it. He marks the location and let’s the professionals deal with it.
• Anybody who has been briefed on N.B.C. ( Nuclear Biological and Chemical) warfare knows the drill.
• This was written 2,550 years ago, it sounds like a DOD publication in the last few years.

Question 7: Compare the descriptions of Satan in Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28
Isaiah 14
• To the power behind the “king of Babylon”
• Who took  1/3 of the angels with him
Isaiah 14:12-14
• His name was, Lucifer, son of the morning
--How art thou fallen from heaven
--how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations
• For thou hast said in thine heart
• “The 5 “I Wills”, Satans ambition and agenda
--I will ascend into heaven
--I will exalt my throne above the stars of God
--I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north
--I will ascend above the heights of the clouds
--I will be like the most High
• Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit
• They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee,
--They will say, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

Ezekiel 28
• To the power behind the “king of Tyre”
• “The Anointed Cherub that Covereth”, who is a “super angel” appointed over all of the others
• He is a created being
• He was upon the holy mountain of God
• He walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire
• He wast perfect in his ways
• Until iniquity was found in him
• He was in Eden
• He was created
• Who took  1/3 of the angels with him
• Music was significant; he may have led worship
--“the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created”
--His music ability is unparallel, and the speculation of some is that he led the worship heaven, until he got overly ambitious and got carried away with his own plans.
• He was called “son of the morning”
• Every precious stone was his covering
• heart was lifted up because of thy beauty
• He corrupted his wisdom by reason of his brightness
• God will cast thee to the ground
• God will lay him before kings, that they may look upon him
• He defiled his sanctuaries by the multitude of his iniquities
• And by the iniquity of his traffick
• God will bring forth a fire from the midst of him, it shall devour thee
• All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a
• terror, and never shalt thou be any more

9) For what two reasons are Ezekiel 38 and 39 so familiar to prophecy buffs today?

• The main reason is the restoration of Israel, coming back into the land from out of the countries having being scattered around the world was a miraculous event.
• And the future war of Gog/Magog Invasion

Ezekiel 36:22-24
Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

• The nations from the uttermost parts of the north, such as Russia, also, the Assyrian Nations will be involved.
• Russia =Rosh, Turkey=Gomer, Togarmah = Eastern Turkey, Meshech and Tubal =Turkmenistan, Iran=Persia, Cush, Phut, Libya, are named as key players in the end time scenario. With many other nations. The Great Wall of China, may refer to the “Ramparts of Gog & Magog.”

• Israel will be the land in this scenario and will be at peace living in un-walled cities, when an evil thought will come into the mind Gog/Magog. This will set off a Mega-War.

Ezekiel 38:11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, 12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.
Ezekiel 38:3 And say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: 4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: 5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: 6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. 7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them. 8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. 9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.

Ezekiel 39:1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: 2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel: 3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand. 4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. 5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord God.
From here downward, it sounds like a nuclear war and the cleaning up of “fallout” material.
Ezekiel 39: 6 And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the Lord....
9 And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years: 10 So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord God....15 And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man's bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamongog. 16 And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.
